Re: Abiword Documentation

Many thanks:
My problems are these
1. David Chart, who is named as documenter, is not contactable on the
e-mail address given. He does not appear to have changed any documents
since 2003.

2. The instructions for logging as anonymous user on to abisource as given
in the documentation do not work (for me).

3. I do not have commit privileges so I can not up-load anything that I
write to abiword's web.

A few comments:

1. The documentation is intended for simple people who want to know how
the program works, and how to use it. If it is the least bit "technical"
then it is not fit for purpose.

2. If it is difficult to understand then it should be re-written.

3. If it contains errors they must be corrected.

Each unit of documentation consists of two files. An Abiword document and
an "info" file. The info file is plain text and three lines long. These
two files are compiled. using "make", a python script, and standard
headers and footers (all part of the "documents" distribution), into an
HTML file used by Abiword.

I had intended to write some new documents, but I have found that the
existing documents, excellent though they were when written in 2002/3, are
so far out of date as to be useless.

If you agree, I will e-mail you off-mailing list, with the first two
documents as attachments.
