Yes.

AbiWord can only use PostScript Type1 fonts, and the .pfa and the .afm file
must both be present. The Xlib APIs won't tell us which of its fonts are
Type1.

The presence of a fonts.dir file, in the same directory as the fonts
intended for use, allows us to verify that the fonts mentioned within it
are indeed Type1 and that the .pfa and .afm are both present.
