I'm not a true PostScript expert. My understanding is that generating an
afm from a pfa results in less accurate metrics. The afm contains the
metrics which describe the font designer's intentions. Their an important
part of the font. We can't possibly generate high quality printed output
without those metrics.

Try 'xset fp+' rather than 'xset +fp', like we've described on our website at
http://www.abisource.com/dev_download.phtml
This might make a difference in what's happening with Netscape.
