I have just tried abiword 0.7.2 (static) and I have a few comments
(slackware 4.0, kernel 2.2.6)

1) your install script is great... share your understanding of
proper install scripts with netscape and other developers.

2) if I type abiword file.rtf or abiword file.doc
the file is opened properly. However, just starting abiword
with no arguements then using the 'open' menu to read in a
file fails silently ... nothing shows up in the window. This
is true for .doc .txt .rtf .abw attempts

3) opening a .doc with pictures in it causes the program to generate
png and gif images extracted from the doc. Unfortunately, these
are written with a "--" prefix which is a pain in unix because these
are treated as arguments to any command run on them e.g.,
ls --graphic1-mswv-1.png will fail. THere are losts of ways
for the user to get around this, but the non experienced user
will fret

4) Nice look and feel. A professional looking product without the
bloat of staroffice.
