This is an obvious feature for AbiWord. We've set up all the infrastructure
for PNG-native graphics internally, so what's required are platform-neutral
decoders for other raster graphics formats like these. I believe Matt
Kimball recently made that task easier before he started working on vector
graphics support via SVG.

Since you posted this to abiword-dev, rather than abiword-user, are you
interested in more specific pointers about where to start adding that code?

This isn't really an obvious feature for AbiWord, and the core development
team is unlikely to tackle it at any time in the foreseeable future. There
