AbiWord Weekly News #97, (2002, week 25, released 2002.06.24)

Welcome to issue 97 of the AbiWord Weekly News.

This week Martin made the tables span multiple pages. And there was much rejoicing, waving of little flags and the usual hacking.

As you might have noticed, the number of open Bugs have been growing rapidly recently. That's due to the BugZilla update, which resulted in all newly created Bugs to be opened automatically. It'll take a while before we get those Bugs moved to the UNCONFIRMED state where they rightfully belong.

These are links to snapshot builds of AbiWord for a subset of the supported architectures/operating systems.

Note that the snapshot builds may not work (at all!), but are likely to include more features and have fewer bugs than (older) official releases. Use the official releases for "production systems" and the snapshot builds for testing and when you want to help with Bug triaging.

On the Mailing List

Traffic on the developer mailing list has settled at about 200-400 postings per week.

You may also find interesting threads on the user and documentation lists (unfortunately the archive for the latter is broken at the moment).

This week, interesting topics on the developer list included:

  1. patch -- Xft stuff: Joaquín has been working on using Xft for handling fonts on Linux. Much better and easier font support than what we had before. The stuff is still not checked in though, as there's an open discussion about how/when/where to do it, since it overlaps somewhat with the Pango work already in progress.

  2. commit: Implement Tables broken across pages: Martin continues his table work...

  3. Commit (HEAD): Wrap things up: Mark has been tweaking the diving make build system the last week.
