I must say here thet if the gnome suport developers have nothing to do with the spell section, they don't slow the correction of the spell or other smaller parts. they are focused on gnome support.

it's like saying that adding MathML support to mozilla is slowing the project. it is not. mathml is not the main effort, and it is done by a small group of developers within mozilla.

I don't remember it ever having worked, and periodically I test it to see if it's going ok.
