just as a suggestion, I think that being able to turn the overwrite mode
off permanently (as a preference) would be very useful. I don't know how
many times I have accidentally hit Ins and typed over text. This would
probably be very similar code to turning off the F12 key, which was
discussed on this list earlier.
I understand that without an accompanying patch, this suggestion is
unlikely to go very far, but I just wanted to make the suggestion.
