Well, I've done most of the requisite hacking, and gotten the new source
to compile and run with abiword (it wasn't that hard).
I did assume that the file Paul mentioned was the only one that was
changed.
However, I discovered while looking at the makefiles that we compile only
a few of the source files for expat. I assume that there is a reason for
this, but I don't know it. There have been a few files added (most
notably xmltok_ns.c - I think that's name spaces) and I wonder which
should be compiled.

The new files are (from diff)

Only in expat-1.1/: bin
Only in expat-1.1/: expat.dsw
Only in expat-1.1/: lib
Only in expat-1.1/gennmtab: gennmtab.dsp
Only in expat-1.1/xmlparse: xmlparse.dsp
Only in expat-1.1/xmltok: xmltok.dsp
Only in expat-1.1/xmltok: xmltok_ns.c
Only in expat-1.1/xmlwf: xmlfile.c
Only in expat-1.1/xmlwf: xmlfile.h
Only in expat-1.1/xmlwf: xmltchar.h
Only in expat-1.1/xmlwf: xmlwf.dsp

If someone who knows the origional mods we made to expat could explain
this to me, I'll finish this off.
