The splash screen

It's annoying. The application loads within a fraction of a second on
my system, so the splash screen spends most of its time distracting me
and getting in the way of my typing. Can there be an option for
disabling the splash screen, or making it only last on screen until
the application is ready for typing? I despise splash screens in
general as a boring waste of resources, but it's even worse when it
stays up far longer than it needs to, prolonging the percieved startup
time of the application by several hundred percent.

Yes, I know about the nosplash option. I plan to use this. But I think
it's kind of weird to have to use a special command line option to get
rid of the splash screen. The ironic thing is that abiword -h brings
up a splash screen, so you can't even look at the comand-line
reference without X running. A preference would be less awkward. At
least make the splash screen only stay up until the application is
ready, and I'll be happy.

Or, if there's a consensus that this is a good idea, I might start
work on it (it sounds pretty simple, except for the preference,
because preferences are probably loaded after the splash screen).
