I didn't know this. Thanks for the information.
BTW, AFAICS, there actually was a UCS-xx which was identical to UTF-16,
UCS-2E (a proposal, which later turned into UTF-16, according to <URL:
http://www.terena.nl/multiling/unicode/utf16.html >).
