            Yes. FreeType is straight ANSI C and has been ported to
    most/all of the existing small devices - in fact, many of them use FT
    as their native text rendering for OS services.

            Pango, as cool as it is, requires a LOT of Glib/GNOME to
    function and that's problematic on our full platform list.
