It is new, and being developed by a volunteer you should talk to him
directly.

there are a variety of non native ways of generating pdf from Abiword, i
think they were discussed on the user mailing list a few months ago

There are a few minor details but so long as you comply with the GPL it
should not be a problem, in fact it would be great to have abiword on CD.
I think it was Jared Aiken who investigated putting Abiword on a CD with
binaries and source for a variety of platforms, but i am unsure how far he
got.

This could probably be done using the Perl enabled builds, at least that
is what has been suggested when mail merge is mentioned.
here is the bug report, essentially it says scripting is currently the
only way to do this but a compent may be developed at a later date.
