To me it seems so because LD_PRELOADing libXft.so built from
fcpackage.2_0 makes abiword run again.
BTW: I just noticed that mozilla behaves exactly the same.

Platform is YellowDog Linux 2.3, gcc-3.2.1, gnome-2.1.5
