Sorry, I feel compelled to chirp in and say +1.

I'm not sure how it would work as a command line option--maybe that would be
an easy way to implement the feature at first--eventually I'd like to be able
to turn macro recording on and off within abiWord, then copy the recorded
macros to the editor for abi's built in macro/embedded language (Python?) and
modify the code as desired (for example, to add conditionals, which are hard
to record as keyboard macros (ime).

There is an RFE:

Also, these are/may be (imho) somewhat related:

   * http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7249
   * http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8144
   * http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2322 (auto replace--pretty
far OP, but could be implemented via 5681 (and keyboard shortcuts to invoke
macros))

The best expression of what I'd like to see is in the first RFE (5681) ;-)
