I think you're starting form the wrong end. You should focus on adding code to enchant library, designing external hyphenation API, hyphenation provider manager and support for hyphenation providers, implementing at least one, which uses 'hyphen' library and TEX dictionaries. Only when application-independent hyphenation interface is ready, you should focus on Abiword-specific implementation.

Also all the code in enchant library relating to hyphenation is to be entirely designed and written by you.
