Walter,

Please allow me to clarify my comment. I do not read Chinese and I am
not in a position to make a determination of whether the existing
strings or the newly submitted strings are "more correct". I know
from my own casual review of multiple languages during the upload to
Pootle and a more in depth review of languages (like Spanish) that I
do read, that the existing AbiWord strings were certainly in need of a
thorough review because of some automatically mangled strings in
version migrations and other factors.

My purpose in providing Pootle hosting for the AbiWord files was three-fold.

1) It is my belief that a collaborative database method of handling PO
files (Poolte) inherently produces better results than a "download POT
and post to mailing list" method. This comes in part from the
automated tools to flag strings for closer attention (pofilter) and
also from the mutual review and correction of L10n work by a team.
The "download and post" method can result in the inadvertant reversion
of corrections made by others. In addition, the Pootle system makes
it easier for more localizers to contribute as they can add a few
strings at a time, without feeling the need to complete an entire PO
file at once. Small contributions add up quickly in this manner.

2) If the Pootle system becomes well-accepted by AbiWord localizers as
useful, future steps could be taken to distribute the responsibility
for committing the PO files to the repo to langauge admins. This
would reduce the time commitment on overburdened developers and reduce
localizers frustrations with upload "bottlenecks".

3) There are language teams working on Pootle in languages not yet
available for AbiWord. As OLPC is a major distributor of AbiWord (via
the Gnome dual-boot on XO laptop builds), it is in our self-interest
to enhance quality and expand coverage.
