Does it need one, no, of course not. The reason I
suggested the menu item in the File menu is to match user experience
in Word. When a user installs Adobe Acrobat on a machine with
Word/Office, a new menu item ("Create Adobe PDF" ) is added to Word's
File menu - just below Print.

That's certainly a valid option - and not uncommon if you
look at other products such as Illustrator, Corel Draw, InDesign, etc.
