I think it would not be worth the trouble, especially since AbiWord is still
under development. If I want to see the source of something in a source RPM, I
install the RPM and look at it; I don't build from the RPM. I use a program
getpop3, which is available as source RPM and source tarball; I compiled it
from the tarball.
