I've committed this patch along with a piece of another of Sam's
patches (to fix the command-line loading of documents).
Because I got backlogged on patches, this commit changed a bunch of
things, and surely needs a good QA pass as soon as possible.
The application seems to work for me. I can load from the command
line, from files, insert pictures, and the error messages seem to
be correctly mapped to the errors I can throw at it (non-existant
files, wrong file types).
I have not checked the File Save error for its fallback into
the Save As dialog (when the types are wrong). I have also
not tested these patches on builds for platforms other than Unix.
I would appreciate it if Win32 coders could give this a pass through
and tell me the state of things over there.
