You know I saw that comment too and immediately felt bad for you folks.
I've been lurking on this list for eons and am well aware of the blood, sweat
and tears you have poured into making AbiWord the fine product it is today.
You should be proud of what you have accomplished.
I know I sing its praises to anyone I can get to listen.
May I suggest that you respond to his comment by suggesting he spend this
weekend reproducing the featureset, reliability, and cross-platform availability
of AbiWord? Maybe he can get a little extra credit in his CS 101 class. Maybe
he can learn a little humility in the process.
Years ago I did a lot of work on a simple word processor called QuickLetter, and
getting that thing to work right nearly drove me around the bend. And
QuickLetter didn't do a fraction of what AbiWord does.
I've been trying for years to get my wife to use Open Source software. She
won't go near Linux - she sees me using it and is pretty put off by it. But I
have gotten her to agree to make a serious effort at using AbiWord on Windows.
I just haven't had a chance to install the release yet, and I guess there is
some problem still being worked out. But I think she will be pleased with it.
(I subscribed to the list a long time ago because I wanted to help, but have
never been able to get it together to do so. I've decided to limit all my Open
Source work to writing the ZooLib Cookbook and programmer's manual, just so I'm
able to eventually get something finished that will make a difference to
someone. It's tough being self-employed.)
Didn't the Kuro5hin article leave out some of the platforms AbiWord is available on?
